Use Gmail and Google Docs to Easily and Quickly Track Anything

Google Docs and Gmail can be used together to create a simple yet flexible way of tracking just about anything. For example, you can easily track your expenses, create a workout log, or set up a food diary. Here's how.

The Power Tips for Google blog offers this awesome tip for setting up a form in Google Docs and then quickly accessing it in Gmail. The system is really easy to set up:

1. Basically, create a spreadsheet in Google Docs and then go to Tools > Create form in the menu.
2. Edit the form to add the items you want to record (e.g., date, amount, payment method, description, categories, etc.)
3. Click on the "Email this form" button to email it to yourself.
4. Whenever you want to add log something and have it entered into your spreadsheet, you can quickly submit the form from within that email.

Well, one more thing. For easy access to the form, enable the "Quick Links" lab feature (under Settings > Labs in Gmail) and you can add a permanent link to the form to your menu.

There are lots of ways you can use this. Our one-minute personal inventory form would be great to set up with this system. You can even share the form with other people, for simple group tracking.

Android 4.1jelly bean update rolling out for samsung galaxy s3

It's perfectly understandable that recent Galaxy S III purchasers are anxious to hear Android 4.1 Jelly Bean will make its way to Samsung's flagship, and now we've finally found the updated version on the device at IFA 2012 in Berlin. The Galaxy S III in question is Vodafone Germany's yet-to-be-released LTE variant (GT-i9305), and, completely as expected, it's no different than what we saw on the Galaxy Note II earlier this week. Many of Android 4.1's changes are obscured under Samsung's heavy TouchWiz skin, though Google Now and the new voice features are, of course, present. The noticeable improvement that we noticed on the Galaxy Nexus thanks to Project Butter wasn't nearly as apparent on the Galaxy S III, unfortunately.

For those interested in the fine details, the phone was running version 4.1.1 of the operating system. If you noticed that the phone doesn't look quite like Pebble Blue, you'd be right — it looked more like a plum purple. Curiously enough, that color wasn't part of Samsung's recently announced lineup of new colors for the device. We still haven't any official word on when we can expect the update to arrive to phones, but the most recent rumors suggested it'd be out right about now. What does seem clear, however, is that Vodafone's LTE Galaxy S III will launch with Jelly Bean when its released in Germany come mid October.

Apple again against samsung

You didn't think Apple is done with the lawsuits after its victory against Samsung last week, were you? The Cupertino company has filed another patent infringement lawsuit against Samsung, adding an additional 22 devices to the list of alleged offenders.

The new list of smartphones and slates includes Samsung heavy hitters such as the Galaxy S III and the Galaxy Note 10.1. They were not included in the lawsuit Apple won last week -that one actually involved mostly products which are hardly available on the market these days. There are some devices, which were part of the original suit. This time however, they are listed for infringing different patents.

Galaxy S III, Note and Note 10.1 gonna get Jelly Bean very soon

Samsung shared some info on the upcoming Jelly Bean updates for the Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note smartphones and the Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet. The trio is currently running on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

Yesterday, at its pre-IFA press conference Samsung announced that the Jelly Bean updates for them are coming "very soon". We previously heard that the Galaxy S III Jelly Bean update will be released at the IFA, but either those rumors were inaccurate or the development is not going exactly as planned.

Judging by all those leaked ROMs, however, the delay won't be too long and Galaxy S III owners should be tasting Jelly Bean in a few weeks time.

As for the other two - we really hope that this "very soon" means September or October at the latest, rather than the latter parts of Q4.

Sony's Xperia J arrives in style and on budget

The Xperia T may have been Sony's flagship phone for this year's IFA, but the company's promised some style for a tighter budget in the form of the Xperia J -- what exactly "budget" means in this case, we're not exactly sure. The style thing we get, however -- the J's a pretty nice-looking phone and clearly in the aesthetic vein of its Sony Xperia brethren. The 4-inch FWVGA display is nice and bright (we had to turn it down a bit, even with that white Sony tablecloth in the background) and fairly shiny, offset by a matte black back.

At 9.2mm thick, Sony's talking up the handset's svelte design. And it's certainly slimmer than a lot of handsets we've seen -- though not even close to the slimmest. It's also not the most powerful handset we've seen by any stretch with a 1GHz single-core processor inside, but it does a zippy enough job with the Ice Cream Sandwich it's rocking. All in all, the J seems like a fairly solid choice for those who don't want to shell out an arm and a leg on its bigger brother -- although we'll hold off full judgment until we figure out exactly what "budget" means. This morning more than 30 trucks filled with 5-cent coins arrived at Apple’s headquarters in California. Initially,  the security company that protects the facility said the trucks were in the wrong place, but minutes later, Tim Cook (Apple CEO) received a call from Samsung CEO explaining that  they will pay $1 billion dollars for the fine recently ruled against the South Korean company in this way.

the funny part is that the signed document does not specify a single payment method, so Samsung is entitled to send the creators of the iPhone their billion dollars in the way they deem best. 

This dirty but genius geek troll play is a new headache to Apple executives as they will need to put in long hours counting all that money, to check if it is all there and to try to deposit it crossing fingers to hope a bank will accept all the coins.

Lee Kun-hee, Chairman of Samsung Electronics, told the media that his company is not going to be intimidated by a group of “geeks with style” and that if they want to play dirty, they also know how to do it.

You can use your coins to buy refreshments at the little machine for life or melt the coins to make computers, that’s not my problem, I already paid them and fulfilled the law.

A total of 20 billion coins, delivery hope to finish this week.

Let’s see how Apple will respond to this.

The Galaxy Note II wasn’t the only flagship device that Samsung announced at its pre-IFA press conference. The company has also revealed the first ever Windows Phone 8 smartphone – the Samsung ATIV S.



The ATIV S is built around a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED display of HD resolution and has Gorilla Glass 2 on top for extra protection. Powering the smartphone is a 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm Krait processor and 1GB of RAM. At the back, there’s an 8MP camera with 1.9MP snapper at the front.

Measuring 137.2 mm x 70.5 mm x 8.7 mm the Samsung ATIV S weighs 135 grams and packs a beefy 2,300mAh battery. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 3 and NFC. Windows Phone 8 supports memory expansion slots and the Samsung ATIV S makes use of that, bringing a microSD card slot to allow expansion of its 16GB or 32GB built-in storage.

Pricing and availability is yet to be confirmed, but we're guessing the smartphone will hit the shelves immediately after Microsoft officially releases the Windows Phone 8 OS.

Making the Samsung ATIV S company are three new Windows 8-powered tablets – the 10.1” ATIV Tab, and two 11.6” ATIV Smart PC and ATIV Smart PC Pro.

Samsung Galaxy Note II official with 5.5-inch screen and Android Jelly Bean

 After dominating IFA 2011 with its Galaxy Note introduction, Samsung is hoping to repeat the feat today with the Galaxy Note II. Now thinner and lighter, the new Note device comes with a redesigned S Pen stylus, a bevy of new software features layered atop Android 4.1, and an enlarged 5.5-inch display. Oh, and it now runs on a 1.6GHz quad-core Exynos processor.

The display resolution is the same as with the original Note, 1280 x 720, and the technology employed is still Super AMOLED, though the Pentile subpixel arrangement has finally been put in the past. It's still not a perfect stripe of RGB pixels as you might get on LG's IPS displays or the laudable HTC One X, but it's somewhere in between. An improvement, in any case.

The physical design and materials, however, are a direct match to Samsung's Galaxy S III, which launched earlier this year. The Note II even uses the same 8-megapixel camera. The software interface looks identical to the GS III's, but for the S Pen-specific "Magic Wand" sub-homescreen and a selection of other stylus enhancements. NFC, a choice of two colors (Mountain White and Titanium Gray), and three storage options (16GB, 32GB, or 64GB) are other similarities to Samsung's flagship smartphone. 2GB of RAM will come standard on the Galaxy Note II.
