Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Note III is among the most highly anticipated smartphones of 2013. While sales of the third-generation flagship phablet won’t approach handsets like the Galaxy S4 or Apple’s iPhone lineup, Samsung’s Galaxy Note handsets have regularly been among its top-selling high-end devices. 

According to a new report on Friday, the Galaxy Note III was initially supposed to include a 6-inch display but Samsung reworked the device and opted for a 5.7-inch panel instead. Other highlights include a quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor (some versions may carry Samsung’s Exynos 5 Octa processor), 3GB of RAM, a metal-look insert wrapped around the edges of the phone like the one on the Galaxy S4, the new Android 4.3 operating system and support for newer LTE-Advanced networks capable of delivering data speeds twice as fast as current 4G LTE networks.

Android 4.3 announced, rolling out to Nexus devices today

Android 4.3 isn’t an overly dramatic advancement over Android 4.2, but the new version of Google’s mobile OS announced today does bring a number of improvements that should appeal to both developers and end users. Highlights include the redesigned camera interface, general performance improvements for the OS including smoother animations, and long-awaited Bluetooth Low Energy support.

MUTI-USER RESTRICTED PROFILES

This builds on the multi-user accounts on 4.2, but adds Restricted Profiles. These make it possible to do parental controls on the tablet, by changing the performance of apps and other services based on who’s logged in. It also blocks out access to stuff like in-app purchases. There’s much more to this than just parental controls, however, including options for provisioning in enterprise settings.

BLUETOOTH IMPROVEMENTS

Bluetooth Low Energy (Bluetooth Smart) makes it easy to connect accessories to Android devices without sapping too much battery. This is key for smart watch and other wearables, as well as health and fitness trackers.

OPENGL|ES 3.0

This is huge for game developers, as it allows for much better graphics rendering, which shows off very well in the demos Google showed off on stage. Now we can also see lens flares a la J.J. Abrams, and other very nice visual effects on future games. All of the above is rendered in real-time in native 1080p.

DRM APIS

Who doesn’t get excited about locked down media content? Serisously though, this is a boon for content providers and should help Google convince even more to offer up greater libraries, with the peace of mind that their stuff is safe. It does accompany the news that Netflix will deliver 1808p video streaming on Netflix, making the Nexus 7 the first Android tablet to get that.

NOTIFICATION ACCESS

You now can access and interact with notifications form the Android status bar, and use those to be displayed in another app or via Bluetooth on a connected device (like the Pebble) and you can change their read status and dismiss them, too.

The update is pushing out live today to existing Nexus tablet devices, in addition to shipping on the new Nexus 7. It's also going to be coming to Google Nexus handsets and experience devices soon.

Google’s 2013 Nexus 7 Unboxed Ahead of Launch, Preorders Accepted at Best Buy

Ahead of an official announcement from Google, the company’s new 2013 refreshed Nexus 7, also dubbed the Nexus 7 2, was shown in a series of unboxing images and and in a video. The images show the slate’s new rounded corners, slimmer side bezels, and the retail packaging box. The retail box shows that the model in the picture is a 32 GB WiFi-only Nexus 7.

The new leaked images posted on Android Police matches the leaked official press photos that we’ve seen recently.

The device is widely believed at this point to be debuting Google’s newest Android 4.3 operating system, which may be an incremental upgrade to the Android 4.2.2 release that’s available on devices today. The slate will have both a front-facing and rear-facing 5-megapixel camera.

That information was confirmed on a Best Buy preorder page, which lists the new OS as one of the device’s specs alongside the 7-inch 1920 X 1200 high resolution display, Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, Bluetooth 4.0, and WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n support. The 16 GB will retail for $230 while Best Buy is asking for $270 for the more capacious 32 GB model.

We’ll know more soon enough as Google is slated to announce its latest 7-inch tablet today. The first generation Nexus 7 was priced at $199 for the entry level model, but came with commendable specs that made it both successful and popular. In the weeks following the tablet’s launch, Google and its manufacturing partner Asus had struggled to keep supplies in stock to meet demands.

The new tablet is expected to be available on sale at retail stores by the end of the month through various channels so it may not be long before consumers will be able to pick up the slate and unbox this year’s official 7-inch Nexus refresh.

It seems like new Nexus 7s are everywhere, so we're not surprised one of the tablets floating around has finally been subjected to a quick round of benchmarking.Android Police has dug deep into the specs, confirming this slate -- device codenamed "Razor" -- has internals nearly identical to the Nexus 4, with a Snapdragon S4 Pro CPU running at 1.5GHz and 2GB of RAM behind its 1920x1200 7-inch screen. Running the 3DMark and AnTuTu benchmarks revealed scores slightly higher than the Nexus 4, but we'll probably have to wait just a little longer to find out exactly what its Android 4.3 OS is bringing to the table.

The Sony Xperia Z Ultra smartphone, which had been listed as 'coming soon' on online store Saholic, a day back, has now got a price tag of Rs. 44,990.

The listing promises a delivery time of 7 days for Delhi PIN-codes, so it's likely that Sony might make an official announcement within this week. It also bundles a 16GB memory card with the phone.

The Sony Xperia Z Ultra sports a sleek look with a thickness of 6.5mm, and weighs 212 grams. It features a 6.4-inch full-HD display with a resolution of 1080x1920 pixels and boasts of Sony's proprietary BRAVIA Engine 2. It is powered by a 2.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor coupled with 2GB of RAM. It offers 16GB of internal storage that can be expanded up to 64GB via microSD card. The Xperia Z Ultra sports an 8-megapixel Exmor RS rear camera and a 2-megapixel front facing camera. The device includes LTE, NFC, Wi-Fi, 3G, DLNA and Bluetooth connectivity options. It has a 3000mAh battery that Sony claims could deliver up to 14 hours of talktime and 768 hours of standby time.

Just like the Xperia Z and Xperia Z Tablet, the Xperia Z Ultra is also dust and water proof and comes with IP55 and IP58 certification. The Sony Xperia Z Ultra comes with handwriting recognition support and the device's screen can work with a pencil or a stylus/ pen that has a tip of more than 1mm(in diameter). It also comes with new and updated Sony Media Applications that include apps like Walkman, Movies and Album.

Last month, the company announced the Xperia Z Ultra for select markets and it was expected that the phone would be globally launched in Q3, 2013.
