Mahindra launches the all new Thar off-roader

Mahindra introduces all new retro off-roader
coupled with a modern engine

“Mahindra & Mahindra today launched the 4x4 off roader the THAR CRDe. The off roader has been introduced in the Indian market keeping in mind the increase in the number of off-roading enthusiasts and the demand for used MM540’s. The Thar retains the looks of the classic MM540 but is based on a chassis that is a mix of the Bolero and the Scorpio. The Thar is powered by a 2.5 litre CRDe engine produces 105PS and 247Nm of power and torque respectively. The off-roader comes fitted with a Borg Warner transfer case and features a 5-speed manual gearbox. The Thar also features auto locking hubs and offers 200mm of ground clearance. We took the Thar out for a short drive and found it capable on the road as well. The front independent suspension and rear leaf spring setup felt sorted helping the Thar feel planted even at 130kmph. Mahindra is also offering accessorized and customized Thars for booking. The customized Thar is equipped with alloy wheels, leather seats, winch, meshed grill, bull bar, lamps on roll cage and more. The Thar is also available with a DI engine and is positioned as a lifestyle vehicle for the rural market with both two wheel and four wheel drive options. The BS III variant will be priced at Rs 4.47 lakh, ex-showroom Jaipur and the BS IV Thar CRDe is priced at Rs 5.99 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi. The Thar will be launched in Mumbai, Delhi, Chandigarh, Bangalore, Mangalore, Cochin and Jaipur by the end of this month and the rest of India by January 2011.”
